Jagdish Sutar Design Co. isn’t just a furniture brand. It’s a lineage. A studio that treats craft as legacy and every object as a timestamp. At the heart of the brand lies a simple equation. Indian craftsmanship meets contemporary clarity. It’s not about making furniture that looks global. It’s about building pieces that feel rooted, precise, and quietly iconic.

Built From Legacy, Not from Moodboards

Jagdish brings more than a designer’s eye. He brings generational authority. Born into a family of master woodworkers in Rajasthan, he inherited a design vocabulary rooted in material honesty. The story began in 1982 with his father, Mr. Jethabhai Sutar, who founded Pratishtha. Today, the company continues as the in-house production arm of Jagdish Sutar Design Co. With time, the family’s creative bandwidth grew. Jagdish’s elder brother, Revant Sutar, introduced architectural scale through interior and contracting projects. Together, they’ve turned a carpentry legacy into a full-blown design ecosystem.

Milan Trained, Rajasthan Bred

Educated in Milan and raised in Rajasthan, Jagdish moves between two worlds with ease. His design language merges Italian precision with Indian soul. Western minimalism meets Eastern material philosophy. The result is furniture that whispers rather than shouts. The finishes are warm. The forms are clean. The construction is exacting. But the emotion? Fully intact.

Legacy of Objects Is Not a Collection

It’s a quiet design statement. The Legacy of Objects artisan series doesn’t rely on spectacle. It’s made for people who understand patience, process, and storytelling through materials. The Charpai stands tall as the icon of the series. Handwoven cotton yarn forms the seating. Teak frames the body. Bawri-inspired patterns give it structure and soul. Its asymmetrical legs keep the silhouette unexpected but deliberate. Each piece is made alongside local craftspeople. They are not vendors. They are collaborators. Their knowledge is embedded in every joint and curve.

Minimalism With a Pulse

Even the smallest piece carries weight. The coat hanger is cut from a single teak plank. Brass hooks adjust smoothly. Nothing is overdesigned. Nothing is decorative without reason. This is a studio that believes in making slowly and thinking deeply. Every design choice serves the object’s purpose, history, and user. It’s not about looking good in photos. It’s about feeling right in real life.

Rewriting the Global Narrative

Jagdish Sutar is not chasing trends. He’s building future heirlooms. His work presents a fresh identity for Indian contemporary design on an international stage. It’s not nostalgic. It’s not flashy. It’s rooted, rare, and rigorously made.

He’s not borrowing from heritage. He’s building on it with respect, restraint, and razor-sharp clarity

Artisan Edition Furniture & Objects

How to recognize the real deal at first glance

That Fusion Energy- When you see tradition holding hands with minimalism? That’s Jagdish.

Asymmetry That Works- That offbeat leg? The bold, square-meets-soft silhouette? That’s the visual poetry Jagdish writes with wood.

Minimal but Never Cold- Yes, it’s clean-lined and modern—but it still feels. Soft curves, warm tones, handcrafted details. It’s a modern design with a heartbeat.

Story-Driven- Each piece speaks. Of people, place, and time.

GLOSSARY: POTTER’S EDITION

Artisan Series- Think of this as the soul of the brand—handcrafted pieces with old-school techniques, remixed for today.

Charpai- An old-school Indian daybed reimagined. It’s chill, comfy, and now—it’s got a design edge.

Bawri Weaving- A detailed, hand-done weave pattern that’s strong, stunning, and super textural. A nod to Indian roots.

Asymmetrical Legs- Not your average furniture legs- offbeat on purpose, because symmetry is overrated.
